work of president obama and our incredible and amazing leader congresswoman nancy pa loes si, in march of 2010, president obama signed the comprehensive health reform that we probably have heard a lot in the last couple of years. it is the patient protection and affordable care act which many people referred to as the aca or obama care which is something that we have affectionately appropriated because the term was use ined a derogatory way, we think it's a positive way, this law does many things but perhaps most importantly, it makes preventive care more accessible and more affordable for so many americans and i'm excited to be here to begin a series of hearings that we will be holding on the affordable care act so that we have in san francisco a smooth as transition and implementation as possible. today's hearing will focus on how the aca and our local health care security ordinance work in tandem to make health care and health insurance truly accessible to as many san franciscans as possible. you know, the thing about the health care security ordinance, it was really an example of h

is me linda hague for those of you who don't know me. i was appointed by president obama a little more than two years ago to be united states attorney and it is my incredible honor to represent the president, the obama administration here in the northern district of california. welcome to the stop bullying summit. i'm a federal prosecutor so it may seem odd that here we are talking about bullying and we asked all of you to be here and i want to explain the origin of that and why this happened. you people, everybody in this room, has been involved in this issue and is doing incredible work on this issue and we were so honored to be a part of it and to meet with all of you and to speak with you about it. the origin is that as the united states attorney, the administration wants me, wants all the united states attorneys, to go out into the community. it's actually a very different role for the united states attorney is envisioned by this administration. this administration, the president, attorney general holder, they want the u.s. attorneys to go out into the attorney to talk to the c

for president obama, a dignified elderly 92 year old woman named bernice opened the door in my get out the vote identification, identified her supporting equality. and she looked at me and she looked at my official obama pen that said lgbt for obama and she looked at me with tears in her eyes and she said, our time has really come, hasn't it? we both cried. that moment with bernice takes some of the pain of this day away. on this day i always feel a heightened affinity with my uncle for this was that night 34 years ago that i had to first reflect on my own conversations with harvey. anyone who has had conversations with harvey will know, you cannot get away easy. and he didn't let me as a teenager get away easy either. i had to reflect about the meaning of those conversations. it was a day that i had to look hard at what his love and guidance would mean to me that that was gone, that i could only think of the words and the conversations that we had. my uncle was moved by all extraordinary heroes of authenticity that he would see, particularly when it wasn't pretty or easy for them. that is in m

was nominated for that position by president obama and sworn in in october of 2009 and we are all the lucky -- we are all very lucky that that happened in october of 2009. tom has spent his entire career in public service and on protecting the civil rights of our most vulnerable people. tom actually joined the civil rights division as a young lawyer and while he was there he prosecuted some of the most significant cases in the country. lawyers in the civil rights division get fanned out to places in the country to handle cases in mississippi and alabama and california and all over and tom was one of those people. he was sent to texas to handle a very significant hate crime case when he was a young lawyer that involved a gang of white supremacists that went on a killing spree and ended up shooting 3 people and killing one when he was a young lawyer working in the civil rights division. he later served as a top deputy for attorney general janet reno, he was special counsel to ted kennedy and served as the president's advisor on civil rights issues. he was also director for civil rights

're coming from. you're going to have an unrealistic view of obama care implementation, or that's what my worry is. if other ruminating of this advice may have a list of anecdotal evidence and howell they take care of their employees, if you must look to anecdotal evidence, look to the young kids in their 20's who are trying to get a start in their restaurants or any other business, we take kids who can get hurt easily and we have to give them an option for health care and it's hard to pay 2 thousand dollars for one bedroom apartment for this town, so i've been one of those kids and my family and my friends are all those kids, they come from service backgrounds, they work hard in kitchens and they need a place without having to share a bedroom because to share a bedroom could cost them an extra thousand dollars, it's ir realistic and irresponsible to have them pay out each month. so, be clever, find a way to reinforce this legislation, it's a standard that's unparalleled and should be enhanced, should not be backed down on and you should not leave it alone and make it stronger and not wea
